Abu Dhabi, UAE (21 January 2018) –As the world’s best golfers battled it out at the 2018 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA, the HSBC Future Falcons programme made its return to the Championship Village to promote the game of golf with the next generation of the UAE youth.
The HSBC Future Falcons programme has introduced hundreds of local children to the game since partnering with the region’s leading tournament, aiming to excite, engage and educate youngsters on the game of golf. During the championship week, a series of challenges and clinics took place for all to take part in. The ‘HSBC Skills Challenge’ which focused on the fundamental components of golf — the swing, chip and putt — was one of the most popular, providing a fun and competitive introduction to the sport for juniors between the age of 5 and 15.
Despite this year’s tournament seeing the best of the best in world golf grace the National Course, the golfer everyone was talking about this year was 13-year-old schoolboy Oscar Murphy, who was the winner of skills challenge from the HSBC Future Falcons golf programme. The Abu Dhabi based student was given the incredible prize of hitting a tee shot on the 15th tee alongside his heroes — four-time major champion Rory Mcllroy, Tommy Fleetwood and World No.1 Dustin Johnson. Talking about his unique experience, Murphy said: “Getting the tee shot inside the defending champion Tommy and World Number 1, Dustin Johnson along with my hero Rory Mcllroy was the best day of my life! My family is so proud of me and thinks I have done a fantastic job!”
Speaking about the importance of growing the game amongst youngsters, coach Tom Wraight said: “The HSBC Future Falcons programme aims to get kids excited about golf and learn the game in a safe environment. These kids are a great example of the talent we have in the region, and hopefully, their experiences will inspire and motivate more people to get into the game – just look at the opportunity these kids get to not only watch but even play alongside the best in the world!“We are extremely thankful for the ongoing support of Abu Dhabi Sports Council as the programme continues to grow, as we remain committed to developing the future stars of golf right here in the UAE.”
