Abu Dhabi: Thousands of students will be taken on a voyage of discovery as the latest ‘lema?’ tour visits schools across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in the next six weeks.
Operated by the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) with the support of its Platinum Sponsor, Mubadala Investment Company, ‘lema?’ uses the latest innovative techniques to inspire the next generation of leaders and innovators through a mix of fun-filled workshops and interactive shows covering the subjects of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, (STEM).
Held over the course of six weeks three times a year, the ‘lema?’ roadshow visits public and private schools in Abu Dhabi, the Al Ain Region and the Al Dhafra Region delivering Arabic and English workshop and shows aimed at students in Grades 3 to 7, which have been designed to work within the current curriculum. Tailored workshops have also been designed to include schools and pupils of determination.
Trimester Two lema? tour coincides with UAE Innovation Month, kicking off in Abu Dhabi in February, and will lead to a series of exciting activities planned by ADEK to mark the special event.
‘lema?’, which means ‘why?’ in Arabic, was first launched in Abu Dhabi in 2012 with the aim of inspiring a new generation of scientists, engineers, innovators and leaders in technology who will be at the forefront of shaping the UAE of. It has had a significant impact on the hundreds of thousands of students who have enjoyed the fun-filled workshop and shows.
STEM subjects are the foundation of a modern, well-rounded education and are at the heart of the UAE government’s drive to create an innovative and knowledge-based society. They are also perfectly aligned to the 2018 Year of Zayed, promoting the Founding Father’s renowned values of Wisdom, Respect, Sustainability and Human Development.
‘lema?’ reached 30,460 young minds in its first tour of the 2017/18 school calendar year in the Fall, performing in 62 schools across the Emirate and holding a special extra event at the annual Abu Dhabi Science Festival. The intensive tour scheduled between January and March is expected to reach another 16,000 pupils bringing the total for the academic year to almost 45,000 students.
The first leg of the new tour will include four key themed interactive workshop; Prepare For Take Off; Energy Futures Show; The Radio Studio Workshop; and Secrets of Space Show. Each theme has been carefully designed to spark students’ imagination by presenting them with exciting, intriguing and interactive topics that go beyond the traditional format of classroom and textbook-based lessons.
The ‘lema?’ presenters also work hard to inject an element of fun into their workshop, with humour, playful jokes and entertainment equally as important as spreading a message of education.
