Sweat for Clean Water Access
Surge, the international foundation investing in communities through safe water and sanitation solutions in an effort to end the cycle of poverty, participated in the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon on Friday, 26th January2018, to raise awareness of the global water crisis. Over 100 runners participated from Dubai’s design community on behalf of the foundationA leading Dubai interior design firm, Wilson Associates, spearheaded this effort with two more design firms MMAC Design Associates and GAJ joining its team of runners. Together these firms enlisted the support of 15 industry suppliers to help shine light on the fact, globally one in ten people do not have access to safe water.
Wilson Associates recently competed in Surge’s annual sustainability challenge ‘Design, Dine and make a Difference’ securing the accolade of Master Craftsman for the creation of its lighting element, FEmale. This engagement with Surge inspired them to do more to change our world for the better
Every day inhabitants in water-stressed countries walk on average six kilometers to fetch water for their families. This task falls mostly upon women and children as young as ten years of age.Carrying a yellow jerrycan from Uganda across the finish line, the design industry runners wore blue t-shirts representing SURGE and inspiring people to consider new ways to create a brighter future for our planet where no one will lack safe water.
